Sigma Advanced Systems Ltd.: overview
Hyderabad: In a major win that underscores India’s growing footprint in the global defense supply chain, aerospace and defense precision components manufacturer Sigma Advanced Systems Limited (BSE: 532408 | NSE: SIGMAADV) has bagged a massive USD 104.9 million (approximately INR 1,013 Crore) export contract.
The order, secured from a North American customer, mandates the manufacture and supply of 147,000 units of 155mm base bleed artillery shell bodies. With these precision-engineered casings currently seeing massive demand worldwide, Sigma is slated to execute the order over an aggressive 6 to 12-month timeline.
Moving Up the Ammunition Value Chain This contract marks a pivotal technological leap for Sigma. Having previously established its capabilities through contracts for 155mm fuzes and conventional M107 shell bodies, the company is systematically moving up the artillery value chain. Sigma is now producing technologically advanced "base bleed" shells—a complex manufacturing feat that integrates aerodynamics, energetics, propulsion-related technologies, and advanced systems engineering into the projectile.
Unlike conventional artillery shells that suffer from aerodynamic drag and turbulence at the rear during flight, these next-generation shells feature an integrated gas-generating unit at the base. This critical addition significantly reduces drag and extends the effective firing range, all while maintaining full compatibility with existing 155mm artillery platforms currently in service worldwide.
Riding the Global Defense Supercycle The mega-order arrives amidst a rapidly accelerating global investment cycle in artillery modernization. Defense forces across multiple regions are heavily prioritizing ammunition stockpiling and seeking extended-range fire support capabilities to bolster operational readiness. Sigma's ability to scale the manufacturing of these high-precision systems positions the company at the heart of a global supply chain that is experiencing sustained demand from allied and partner nations.
Margin Accretive Growth and Future Visibility For investors, the contract brings multiple long-term financial benefits. The management expects the order to be margin accretive, directly supporting an improvement in the company’s overall profitability. Beyond the immediate commercial windfall, successfully executing this export-qualified contract is expected to serve as a high-profile reference program, paving the way for Sigma to forge new, lucrative relationships with overseas customers and strategic partners.
Addressing the milestone, Sunil Kalidindi, CEO and Executive Director of Sigma Advanced Systems Limited, stated: "Defence manufacturing is ultimately built on trust, earned through consistent execution, uncompromising quality, and the ability to scale complex programmes. Such contracts reflect the confidence global customers place in Sigma's manufacturing capabilities and reinforce our ambition to become a long-term partner to leading defence organisations across global markets."
