By combining forces, EIM and HPCL are playing directly to their respective strengths to roll out capacity faster and more efficiently than either could achieve independently.
EIM will bring its deep electric vehicle fleet expertise to the table, owning and managing the battery inventory and the cutting-edge swap-and-charge hardware. HPCL, leveraging its vast network of over 25,000 retail outlets across India's major highways and expressways, will provide the crucial space, utilities, and common amenities.
For commercial fleet operators, an HPCL outlet offers more than just real estate. It guarantees prominent highway or urban locations with existing power connectivity, safety systems, forecourt space, and round-the-clock staffing—the exact conditions required to make public charging practically dependable.
Crushing Range Anxiety with 7-Minute Swaps
Time is the ultimate currency in long-haul logistics. EIM’s battery swapping technology, offered alongside conventional charging, allows drivers of suitable commercial vehicles to exchange a depleted battery for a fully charged one in just 7 minutes. For fleet operators moving goods over long distances, this dramatic reduction in vehicle downtime translates directly into improved daily utilization and higher earnings.
The Road Ahead: Strategic Freight Corridors
The infrastructure deployment will follow an aggressive, phased rollout. Over the next 18 to 24 months, EIM plans to establish dedicated swap-and-charge hubs along India’s most critical freight arteries, specifically targeting the Mumbai–Pune, Delhi–Jaipur, and Chennai–Bangalore corridors, expanding progressively thereafter.
These hubs will be seamlessly integrated with EIM’s proprietary technology platform, providing operators with real-time availability tracking, digital payments, and remote monitoring capabilities.
Execution Already in Motion
EIM is not just outlining a vision; it is actively building an electric heavy commercial vehicle ecosystem, complete with megawatt-scale charging and swapping stations. Following the launch of its first electric heavy vehicle, the Ashwa 55-ton e-tractor, on August 1, 2025, the company has already commissioned six heavy-duty swap stations across the Delhi-NCR region and the JNPA port area. These active stations currently boast a daily capacity of 840 battery swaps.
With this new HPCL partnership, EIM has set a firm target to achieve 40 operational heavy commercial vehicle swap-cum-charging stations by the end of March 2027.
