Karnika Industries Ltd.: overview
Record growth. Stronger brands. Bigger ambitions. Karnika Industries Limited (BSE: KARNIKA | Market Cap: ~Rs. 800Cr) is moving from making kidswear to owning a bigger piece of the kidswear story, with Kidcity taking the brand closer to the consumer. The market still values it like an ordinary garment maker. That gap closes soon. Here’s why:
The Numbers are Accelerating…
Karnika delivered its best quarter and best half-year ever, with profitability growing faster than revenue.
Strong Revenue & Earnings Growth: Q2 revenue grew 52.3% to Rs. 106Cr, while H1 revenue rose 74.7% to Rs. 180Cr. H1 EBITDA increased 68.1% to Rs.33Cr and PAT grew 88.3% to Rs. 23Cr.
Margins & Cost Pressures: Higher yarn, dyeing and processing costs pulled Q2 EBITDA margin down to 18.8% from 20.7%. H1 PAT margin still rose 94 bps to 13.0%.
It is a brand, not a manufacturer…
The B2B core is the cash engine, and it sells Karnika’s own labels.
Revenue Mix: Of H1 FY27 revenue of Rs. 180Cr, Rs. 140Cr came from Karnika’s standalone business, with 98% of standalone sales under own brands and 2% through white-label manufacturing.
Manufacturing Synergies: Karnika manufactures ~60% of Kidcity’s products strengthening vertical integration.
Distribution Reach: Sales are split ~55% across North/West and ~45% across Central/South India, with SIS expansion now extending into Madhya Pradesh.
Asset-Light Growth: Existing capacity and job-work arrangements limit incremental manufacturing capex, supporting growth without proportionate fixed-asset investment.
Core Business Growth: The B2B business is expected to grow 20–25% annually, providing a stable foundation as Kidcity scales.
Kidcity to Unlock B2C Growth Engine…
Karnika’s core business remains the foundation, with KidCity adding a meaningful incremental growth opportunity.
Retail Expansion: ~1,000 SIS counters and 300-400 premium outlets by FY30, from 85+ SIS counters in H1 FY27.
Brand & Channels: Licensed apparel at Rs.799-1,499 under “Brands of Brands”; expansion across SIS, premium retail and digital channels, with airports focused on visibility.
Revenue Targets: Rs. 80-100Cr in FY27, Rs. 180-200Cr in FY28 and an internal ambition of Rs. 500Cr by FY30.
The Store Economics Work…
Each new point of sale is a cost advantage that determine profitability
SIS Unit Economics: Rs. 2-3 lakh capex and Rs. 3-5 lakh inventory per counter; estimated payback of 9-12 months.
Premium Retail Investment: Rs. 10-15 lakh capex per “Brands of Brands” outlet, excluding inventory; Rs. 50 lakh target annual revenue at 13-14% margins
New Formats: Airport opportunities in Delhi, Kolkata and Lucknow, alongside premium high-street locations.
Licensing Commitments: ~12 proposed licensed brands, with aggregate minimum guarantees of Rs. 6-8Cr.
Margins & Cost Advantages: Kidcity margins of 10-13%; in-house manufacturing supports cost efficiency and pricing competitiveness.
Growing without stretching the balance sheet…
Working capital is getting tighter, not looser, as the business scales.
Working-Capital Improvement: Working-capital days improved to 143 in H1 FY27 from 178 in FY26.
Collections: Targeting a reduction in B2B collection cycles to 90-100 days from 3-4 months, supported by 62-75 days retailer payment terms.
Leverage: Debt-to-equity at 0.6x, with limited incremental borrowing planned.
Funding Strategy: Internal accruals preferred; equity or preferential allotment may support accelerated expansion.
Five years of compounding, and more guided…
This is not a one-quarter, one-cycle story.
Track Record: Revenue grew at a 40% CAGR from Rs. 47Cr in FY21 to Rs. 248Cr in FY26, while PBT grew at a 108% CAGR and EBITDA margins expanded from 4% to ~15%.
Growth Guidance: Targeting 30-35% CAGR in revenue and PBT through FY28, with Karnika’s B2B business expected to grow 20-25% annually.
Margin Outlook: EBITDA margins guided at 17-20%, with raw material prices expected to remain broadly stable at current elevated levels.
Mainboard Migration & Re-rating Potential…
A mainboard listing puts Karnika in front of a much bigger pool of investors.
Karnika became eligible to migrate to the BSE mainboard effective 13 October 2026, subject to regulatory and procedural requirements leading to better liquidity, wider institutional coverage and room for higher multiples.
Priced Attractively for what it earns…
The valuation hasn’t caught up with the returns.
Karnika’s ROE is well above peers - IRIS Clothing and Purple United Sales, yet all three trade at a similar 6-7x book.
At ~Rs. 800Cr, the stock trades at ~39x FY26 PAT. On guided FY28 numbers, that falls to ~15x.
Karnika’s strong return profile and improving growth trajectory appear yet to be fully reflected in its valuation, offering potential for multiple expansion as earnings growth and execution sustain.
